Let's go- a crystal clear light is wating for us.

Gen I - ???

My memory is very bad.
I had Yellow, I know for certain, but the cartridge is gone. I suspect I had Red. But I don't have any clear memories of those. I know Charmander must've been my first starter (and I will NOT APOLOGIZE for speaking my TRUTH!!). There was a Raichu, and a Butterfree named after my best friend from elementary school who I'd lost contact with. I had a Cloyster, because that was the best way to deal with Lance and Clair at the time according to my so-well-worn-it's-disintegrating Silver and Gold guidebook. I'm certain I had an Articuno that I cherished. I think my eeveelution of choice was Jolteon, but I was too bad at the game to sucessfully get a Porygon. They all had perfectly wretched 'weeb with baby's first English to Japanese dictionary' names.

Gen II - Crystal

This generation I have a bit better memory of. I could've sworn I had Silver, but I think I lost it, or it was stolen. I had Gold, which is the oldest cartridge I still have. I've still got my Crystal cartridge, too, and all of the ones listed after this. But with Gold and Crystal I didn't know about the memory deletion that happens if you don't turn the game on until it was too late, so they're both blank copies. I could start new files on them, but it feels wrong, y'know?
Because of that, the above isn't my team from Crystal, but instead my top six favorites from this generation. (I'm really glad that Z-A has Feraligatr as one of the starters, and am treating it as a sort of reincarnation of my lost starter, in addition to the one from Soul Silver. Get isekai'd to France!!)

Gen III - Emerald

This is the oldest generation I have surviving pokémon from. The earlier ones, even if I hadn't lost them to the battery draining, would still be stuck behind the Gen II/III divide. Emerald might be my favorite mainline game? My pokémon from this gen are marked with blue squares. I'm glad I was able to transfer them all the way forward to the current gen, even if that means, uh.

Gen IV - SoulSilver

I was too broke and then too busy failing out of college to afford a DS when Diamond and Pearl came out, so this is my only Gen IV entry. (Sorry Sinnoh enjoyers! I didn't really have any opinions on it until later; see Gen VIII.) This was the last time I've picked the male protagonist, as Lyra's design was. Well. My most cherished memory of this gen is watching someone with a pokéwalker at Anime Boston 2010 bodily fling themself over the divider between lines to connect with someone else's. My pokéwalker still works, though to save him from the eShop's demise I transfered Ben the Swablu forward. I should catch someone new to take on strolls. My pokémon from this gen are marked with blue hearts.

Gen V - White

I had a vague named-after-authors theme going on this gen, though only two of my team below show it. Fs in chat for the last pixel art gen. My pokémon from this gen are marked with blue stars, and this also marks (hah) the last gen I had to do markings as they introduced origin marks after this. This was also the only gen where I've gotten a female starter- I didn't restart for her, it was just chance.

Gen VI - Y and Alpha Sapphire

Gen VII - Moon and Let's Go Eevee!

Gen VIII - Sword and Legends: Arceus

Gen IX - Violet and Legends: Z-A
